Why You Should Start 18–24 Months in Advance Today
“We’re getting married next year—that’s plenty of time, right?” That’s exactly the question we hear in almost every initial consultation. A few years ago, a one-year lead time was often sufficient. Today, however, popular wedding venues are frequently booked up 18 to 24 months in advance. Saturdays between May and September are especially in demand. That’s why we recommend that our couples start planning sooner rather than later.

Pinterest and Instagram are wonderful sources of inspiration. Save colors, flowers, decorations, and ideas—but don’t confuse inspiration with planning. Many of the images come from staged photo shoots and don’t depict real weddings. Only
once the budget, number of guests, and venue are finalized will those beautiful images become a reality.

Don’t fall in love with photos first—fall in love with a venue that truly suits you. That will save you from having to make a lot of compromises later on.
18–12 months in advance
Now is the time to book the most important vendors: photographer, music, florist, wedding officiant, styling, and much more. If you make your inquiries early, you’ll have the widest selection and can plan with greater peace of mind.
12–9 months in advance
Now it’s time to develop the color scheme, stationery, floral design, and the first ideas for the wedding program. Let yourself be inspired—but stay true to yourself. Not every trend is right for every wedding.
9–6 months in advance
Invitations are being sent out, the menu and wedding cake have been chosen, and many details are being finalized. Good organization is especially helpful right now.
6–3 months in advance
The schedule is being drawn up, the seating arrangements and decorations are being finalized, and all vendors are receiving their information.
